Village of Saint-Jean-de-Sixt

In summer, Saint-Jean-de-Sixt is the perfect base for hiking along trails that offer incredible views of the Aravis mountains. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert hiker, you’ll find plenty to stretch your legs. And for the more adventurous, paragliding is a fantastic option for discovering the mountains… in bird mode. That’s what it’s all about! Those less keen on the altitude can try out the mountain bike trails, or even the downhill scooter.

The village itself is full of charm, with its typical chalets and narrow streets inviting you to stroll. As you stroll along, you’re sure to pass the village church, a pretty, simple building that’s well worth a visit. For lovers of beautiful views, try the ascent to the Col des Aravis: the view is breathtaking, with Mont Blanc in the background!

Finally, for those with a sweet tooth, a number of local farms offer artisanal cheeses (Reblochon, of course!) that you can buy direct from the producer. It’s never a bad idea to sample some local produce!

Aravis mountain range

Classified as a Natura 2000 site since 2006 and straddling the Haute-Savoie and Savoie departments, it rises to an altitude of 2750m. A great playground for all mountain lovers whatever the season, come and discover all its secrets as you please: hiking, climbing, mountaineering, paragliding, summer tobogganing, Dévalkart… Whether you’re more of a relaxer or a daredevil, Saint-Jean-de-Sixt and the surrounding area will leave you breathless (and probably a little dishevelled!). The Aravis Massif is packed with hiking trails to suit all levels. Climb to the summit of the Lachat de Thônes for breathtaking views, or opt for a more leisurely stroll towards the Gorges du Fier, where the river has carved incredible passages through the rocks. Breathtaking scenery and a complete change of scenery await you at every turn along the way.

Annecy: a cultural gem just 30 minutes away

Just 30 minutes from the campsite, come and visit the charming town of Annecy, with its lake and pastel-coloured houses. Nicknamed the ‘Venice of the Alps’ thanks to the narrow canals that run through it, the Haute-Savoie town, overlooked by a medieval castle, boasts magical panoramic views of the mountains and the unspoilt natural surroundings of Lake Annecy. A little gem not to be missed!

Cultural heritage: between art and history

If you’re keen on culture, be sure to visit Thônes, the historic capital of Reblochon cheese. Located around ten kilometres from the campsite, this village is home to the Musée du Pays de Thônes, which tells the story of local history and traditions with passion. Between cultural walks and local gastronomy, you won’t be disappointed!

Grand Bornand resort

Just 3km from the campsite, the Grand-Bornand footpaths will plunge you into a bucolic atmosphere with traditional chalets, herds of cows and flower-filled meadows.

If you’re a keen sportsman, why not try your hand at golf at altitude? Yes, you can also perfect your swing with the mountains as a backdrop! The 9-hole golf course at Le Grand-Bornand is accessible to players of all levels.

The more athletic will appreciate the trail courses that criss-cross the resort. Grand-Bornand’s mountain trails are particularly popular with runners for the challenges they present.

In terms of activities for children, Grand-Bornand also offers accrobranche courses for young and old, with zip lines and suspension bridges that transform the forest into a veritable adventure playground.

Finally, it’s time for a gourmet break! Le Grand-Bornand is home to a number of farms offering tastings of cheeses such as Reblochon and revealing the stages in the production process! A great fun activity.
